Where Jamaican soul meets comfort food

We cook the way Mama Dawn taught us—with jerk that burns slow, ribs that fall from the bone, and sides that fill you up right. Every plate carries the warmth of a kitchen that knows how to feed people.

Our story

The Story Behind Mama D

Mama D’s Family Kitchen LLC was inspired by the life, strength, and cooking of the woman our family has always called Mama D.

Born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, Mama D came to America as a young woman carrying little more than determination, tradition, and a deep love for food. Cooking was never just a skill for her—it was how she showed care, built community, and preserved culture. Over the years, she became known as a chef and baker with a special passion for desserts, blending Caribbean roots with classic comfort flavors that brought people together around the table.

In her kitchen, food meant family. It meant patience, pride, and doing things the right way—by hand, with intention, and with heart. Those values shaped generations around her and became the foundation for this business.

Mama D’s Family Kitchen exists to honor that legacy. Every dish is rooted in the idea that good food should feel like home, whether it’s served at a neighborhood gathering, a community event, or a long day at the field. This food truck isn’t just about meals—it’s about sharing the warmth, resilience, and love that Mama D poured into everything she cooked.

Her story is the soul of this kitchen, and her influence lives on in every plate we serve.
